Hot Apps MEGA MAN X Review

Bringing classic games to the iOS platform has been a growing trend over the last year, and Capcom has been one of the most aggressive publishers of new touch versions of their retro games. Usually publishers release these “updated” games as nothing more than clunky ports with very hard to manage controls. In the case of MEGA MAN X though, this isn’t quite the case. While the game does suffer a bit because of the lack of tactile controls, it does a decent job at emulating the game and making it accessible on the iOS platform. While this is certainly not the ultimate Mega Man experience, it’s fun and as true to the real thing as is likely to be found on iOS.

Kingdom Rush Review

Love them or hate them, tower defense games are addictive and Kingdom Rush is no different. Featuring orcs, trolls, evil wizards and big white yeti-looking creatures, defending the kingdom really is a rush. Seriously, usually games start off slow and let the player get used to it. Nope, not with this one. I found myself on the brink of disaster the entire time from beginning until I set it down. Currently, I’m stuck on a level so evil I can’t wait to pick it back up after I finish writing this review.

Thwarting evil is just another part of their day-to-day. They are the elite of the elite. They are the one’s to call when the other one’s to call just won’t do. They are the Seal Force.

Funny Hell Review

I never thought being in hell could be so exhilarating and rewarding until I tried out Funny Hell from Bulkypix. It’s a castle defender of sorts that starts out extremely easy, but then gets a bit hellish for some devilish gameplay.

Trenches 2 Review

Seriously, there are way too many World War 2 games. Trenches 2 is pretty much a response to fact, taking place in World War 1. Players lead either the British, German, or French campaigns across the European fronts. The whole affair is very cartoony and not very serious, especially considering the big sheepishly devious grins on all the soldiers’ faces. Those looking for a harrowing take on the horrors of war should look elsewhere.

Terra Noctis Review

Poor little Allen. Life’s tough for a nightmare that’s more “Aaaaaaawwwwww…” than “AAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaa!!!!,” and if he’s going to have any hope of being taken seriously he’s going to have to figure something out. Fortunately, after being kicked out of class for being too cute he stumbled across an ancient text that spoke of a sort of uber-nightmare. If he can find it, he might be able to acquire its scariness and become the most fearsome shadow in the dream world. Of course, he has to find it first.

Sin or Win Review

Sin or Win is a different kind of god game. Players are given the opportunity to either kill a never-ending stampede of cavemen by throwing them into a pit of fire, or pop them up merrily on their way to fluffy clouds in order to ascend to heaven. “Winning” the game requires the latter action, but the game is happy to give players the choice to “sin,” ending the lives of the innocent cavemen if they so wish. Each dead caveman adds a clump of bones to the pit. In order to continue winning, as there is no real ending, the player must keep the pit from filling with lava.

FREE Soulo Karaoke and Soulo Mic Review

Soulo Karaoke is a sing along app with a library of popular and public domain songs to rock out to. It can be used with the iPhone 3GS and up, and both iPad devices. It’s possible to record using the built in microphone on these devices, but the company (and our testing) deosn’t recommend it. Instead, they also sell the Soulo Mic, a $70 – $100 microphone accessory made to be used with the app.

Homerun Battle 2 Review

Pretty much every adolescent boy can remember back to summer afternoons spent in the backyard, recreating the moment when they hit the home run, to win the World Series.  Sadly, most will never get the opportunity to take a big league at bat.  Thank goodness there are video games to fill this niche void.  While there are plenty of long ball simulators, Homerun Battle 2 promises to be one of the best.  Does it manage to clear the fence, or is it just a pop fly?
