Analyst: iPhone '4S' possible, but with no 4G

If you had your heart set on an iPhone 4G with LTE, the yet-to-be-announced iPhone 5 can not be for you. The good news is that the next version is still set to get some improvements and end up in more vehicles.

That's according to a research note from Jefferies & Company analyst Peter Misek, collected by Forbes magazine, which claims Apple's upcoming iPhone will not sport LTE, Qualcomm hardware because the chip maker "is not achieving sufficient returns inclusion in the iPhone 5. "

So what is bound to be different in the device's next? Misek said the upgrade will be similar to what Apple did between the iPhone 3G and 3G, increasing processor speeds and quality of the camera. Misek even going so far as to call the device the "iPhone 4S.

"According to our industry controls, the device must be called 4S iPhone and include small cosmetic changes, more cameras, A5 dual-core processor support HSPA +," Misek wrote. HSPA + is the standard that has a download speed of 21 Mbps, compared with 7.2 Mbps HSDPA / HSUPA 3G hardware that is included in the iPhone 4.

As to the question 4G LTE, in the most recent profit company called Apple COO Tim Cook sent an analyst question the maturity of the LTE chipsets, saying first-generation LTE chipsets "forced a lot of design compromises" and that "some of which are not only willing to do." That response did not rule out a chip to finish in a future product. On this day, where the world LTE 4G was near the end of last month showed that some of the first integrated chipsets are not expected to arrive until 2012.

There is some silver lining, and that the next iPhone should be available in more companies, according to Misek. That includes Sprint and T-Mobile at the end of the year in the U.S. and possibly China Mobile after that. If Sprint and T-Mobile have added, to finally bring the iPhone to the four major U.S. carriers. AT & T, of course, has announced plans to buy T-Mobile USA, pending regulatory hurdles. There have been signs that T-Mobile USA and is testing the iPhone 4, giving more credibility to an iPhone landing there.

The report is also reminiscent of one from last 9to5mac month that said Apple is testing a version of the iPhone that looked like the iPhone 4, but with a chip A5, dual-core processor that can be found in Inside the iPad 2. That the evidence is said to be done with game developers, that is taking a shot early to try and develop games with additional processing power.

Apple is expected to introduce the iPhone 4 successor later this year. Several reports, including Misek, say it will be sometime in September, the month in which Apple has historically presented its latest generation of iPods. The next event is announced Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference, now less than a month away. No, Apple has said to show "the future" of the IOS and Mac OS X.
